Things that should be fixed for Wii Fit 2
January 8th, 2009- Image via Wikipedia
Wii Fit for Nintendo Wii is a great idea. Get people off the couch and moving around, make it fun, and track their weight and BMI. Having played it for over a month, I’ve had a good time, but it’s more fun to discuss how it could be better. So here’s my wish list for how Nintendo can fix Wii Fit for a sequel:
Waiting too long between exercises.
I want to quickly jump from exercise to exercise. Right now there’s way too many button presses. I’d like to queue up a bunch of routines and do them all in a row.
Having to stand on the balance board before every exercise, even when it’s not needed
Why do I have to stand on the balance board before I do the jack knife, which doesn’t take weight into account? Stupid.
Unlocking is stupid
Enough said. Just let me do them all from the get-go.
Not enough variance in speech from the trainers
C’mon, you couldn’t get them to say more than 3 things? “You’re steady!” “Good balance” “You seem wobbly” “Did you put your foot down?”
Did I miss any others?
Oh—-NO 2 PLAYER SUPPORT!
The Wii is all about multiplayer, so why is Wii Fit only 1 player? The only thing that’s 2 player is the run, which is pretty lame. Nintendo could make a killing on balance boards by selling extras. The NES track pad was so much fun because 4 people could do it at the same time.
Macworld 2009
January 7th, 2009Just came back from Macworld. Quick thoughts:
More swag this year. Ended up with a shot glass from Iomega, a hackey sack from Turbo Tax, an energy drink, and lots more. Big theme this year: buttons. Everyone had buttons. Buttons sort of suck.
I sorted through all the bits of paper that were shoved in my face here’s what I’m checking out/want to learn more about:
- Virtual box from Sun: Like VMware or Parellels but free
- Wazabee: crazy 3-d TVs and laptops–no 3-d glasses required
- iKlear: free samples rule
- blurb: they make books for you, whether a photo book or a novel
- TaxCut: Got the federal for free
- Crashplan: The missing peg in my backup strategy is offsite. This or Back Blaze look interesting
- Undercover: software that will track a missing/stolen laptop
- Macworld and MacLife magazine: I used to subscribe to both. Sometimes I miss print media
This was the first year that I didn’t spend any significant time at Apple’s booth. Why? Well, I didn’t have much time, and there wasn’t much to see. I’m already getting iLife and iWork, so I’ll play with those at home. I have no interest in the 17″ Macbook Pro. And iTunes is already DRM free here at home. I hope Macworld can make it without Apple at the expo.
So Macworld didn’t suck, but nothing blew me away.
